POST-QUANTUM CRYPTOGRAPHY

Prepare your business for post-quantum cryptography.

Turn post-quantum cryptography (PQC) into a practical programme: discover cryptographic dependencies, prioritise business risk and plan a controlled migration.

Discuss your PQC readiness

What is PQC—and why prepare now?

PQC uses cryptographic algorithms designed to resist attacks from both classical and quantum computers. Sufficiently capable quantum computers could undermine widely used public-key cryptography such as RSA and elliptic-curve schemes. The arrival date is uncertain; migration planning can begin before that capability exists.

For information that must remain confidential for many years, consider the risk that encrypted data is collected now and decrypted later. Start with data lifetime, business criticality and the time required to change your systems.

ALPHASEC · END TO END

One PQC programme. Six connected functions.

ALPHASEC maps the engagement across Govern, Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond and Recover.

01

GOVERN

PQC governance, ownership and supplier requirements.

Agree owners, data-retention priorities, risk appetite and procurement requirements. Review supplier roadmaps and define evidence for management decisions.

02

IDENTIFY

Cryptographic inventory and quantum risk assessment.

Inventory algorithms, certificates, keys and dependencies across TLS, VPN, PKI, applications, cloud and HSMs within the agreed scope. Prioritise exposure and information lifetime.

03

PROTECT

Crypto-agility architecture and controlled migration pilots.

Define a migration roadmap and evaluate supported PQC or hybrid approaches. Validate interoperability, performance and operational constraints in a controlled pilot.

04

DETECT

Monitor cryptographic configuration drift and legacy algorithms.

Define checks for vulnerable algorithms, certificate changes and unexpected fallback. Connect configuration evidence to existing security monitoring.

05

RESPOND

Key and certificate incident response planning.

Prepare playbooks for compromised keys, certificate revocation and re-issuance, cryptographic defects and urgent algorithm changes. Assign decision and escalation owners.

06

RECOVER

Restore cryptographic dependencies within BCP, DRP and BCM.

Test restoration of keys, certificates, encrypted backups and dependent services. Integrate migration and recovery procedures with BCP, DRP, BCM and agreed recovery objectives.

What your organisation receives

  • Cryptographic inventory and dependency map
  • Prioritised quantum-risk and readiness assessment
  • Migration roadmap with owners, dependencies and decision gates
  • Pilot test plan, interoperability and performance evidence
  • Key/certificate response and recovery playbooks
  • Executive briefing and technical knowledge transfer

Standards that inform the work

Crypto-agility is the ability to change cryptographic algorithms while maintaining security and ongoing operations. We assess that capability alongside PQC adoption.

The proposal defines systems, access, timetable and deliverables. Implementation depends on supported products and protocols. A readiness assessment is not a certification, and using a standardised algorithm does not by itself validate a product or guarantee protection against every attack.

PQC questions from business teams

Do we need to replace every system immediately?

No. Begin with inventory and risk prioritisation, then sequence changes around dependencies, supplier support and tested migration options.

Is PQC the same as quantum key distribution (QKD)?

No. PQC uses cryptographic algorithms that run on conventional computing systems. QKD uses different techniques and infrastructure for key distribution.

Does PQC replace our SOC, penetration testing or BCM programme?

No. PQC addresses specific cryptographic risks. Access controls, monitoring, security testing, incident response and continuity remain part of the wider security programme.
